- The majority voted in favour of a [motion](https://www.openaustralia.org.au/senate/?id=2024-03-26.89.2) introduced by South Australian Senator [Simon Birmingham](https://theyvoteforyou.org.au/people/senate/sa/simon_birmingham) (Liberal) to suspend the usual procedural rules of parliament (known as standing orders), which means it succeeded.
