Bills — Interactive Gambling Amendment (Credit and Other Measures) Bill 2023; Second Reading
- Interactive Gambling Amendment (Credit and Other Measures) Bill 2023 - Second Reading - Political influence of wagering industry
Description

Jess Walsh

I will now put the questions on the remaining stages of the Interactive Gambling Amendment (Credit and Other Measures) Bill 2023.

-
- The majority voted against an [amendment](https://www.openaustralia.org.au/senate/?gid=2023-12-06.217.1) to the usual second reading motion, which is "*that the bill be read for a second time*" (to give a bill a second reading is to agree with its main idea). This amendment was introduced by ACT Senator [David Pocock](https://theyvoteforyou.org.au/people/senate/act/david_pocock) (Independent).
- ### Amendment text
- > *At the end of the motion, add ", but the Senate:*
- >
- > *(a) commits to diminishing the political influence of the online wagering industry, in the interests of protecting Australians and harm reduction strategies from industry influence; and*
- >
- > *(b) calls on all politicians and all political parties to stop accepting political donations from the online wagering industry and revoke any passes that they have sponsored for members of the industry, and their agents, to access Parliament House".*
