Title
Committees — Legal and Constitutional Affairs Legislation Committee; Reference
- Committees - Legal and Constitutional Affairs Legislation Committee; Reference - For an inquiry into adding a sunset clause on Native Title
Description

Sue Lines

We're now moving to the first of the deferred votes. I remind senators that, yesterday evening, two votes relating to motions to refer matters to committees were deferred. I understand it suits the convenience of the Senate to hold those votes now, and it's my intention to deal with the first motion, moved by Senator Hanson, concerning a proposed reference to the Legal and Constitutional Affairs Legislation Committee.

-
- The majority voted against part (a) of a [motion](https://www.openaustralia.org.au/senate/?id=2023-09-11.151.1) introduced by Queensland Senator [Pauline Hanson](https://theyvoteforyou.org.au/people/senate/queensland/pauline_hanson) (One Nation), which means it failed.
- There were two rebellions in this division, with South Australian Senator [Alex Antic](https://theyvoteforyou.org.au/people/senate/sa/alex_antic) (Liberal) and Queensland Senator [Gerard Rennick](https://theyvoteforyou.org.au/people/senate/queensland/gerard_rennick) (Liberal) voting "Yes" against the rest of their party.

Could I ask that paragraphs (a) and (b) be put separately?

Sue Lines

Yes. The question is that part (a) of the motion moved by Senator Hanson be agreed to.
