Nick McKim

Could I please ask that the question on part (c)(i) of this motion, in regard to the Corporations Amendment (Meetings and Documents) Bill 2021, be put separately to the rest of the motion? I indicate we intend to vote differently on that to all the other bills.

Stirling Griff

I move:

That the Mitochondrial Donation Law Reform (Maeve's Law) Bill 2021 be added to the list of items to be considered from 4.30 pm at paragraph (c) of the motion.

Slade Brockman

Senator Griff is seeking to amend the motion. We will deal with that first, then we will put the motion, either as it stands or as amended, without clause (c)(i), and then we will put clause (c)(i).

Katy Gallagher

We will not be supporting Senator Griff's amendment. Maeve's Law is subject to a conscience vote across the Labor Party. In line with that decision we do not support guillotines or time management motions on legislation subject to conscience votes.

Simon Birmingham

Just for clarity: the government echoes the position just put by Senator Gallagher. Much as I would like to see debate on Maeve's Law concluded—and I have tried to facilitate additional time through this motion—we won't be applying the guillotine to its consideration.

Slade Brockman

The question is that Senator Griff's amendment to the motion be agreed to.

Question negatived.

The question now is that the motion, without clause (c)(i), be agreed to.

Question agreed to.

The question now is that clause (c)(i) be agreed to.
