Title
Motions — China-Australia Relationship
- Motions - China-Australia Relationship - Current dispute
Description

Sue Lines

I remind senators that last Thursday after 4.30 pm a division was called for on a motion moved by Senator Roberts relating to China. I understand that it suits the convenience of the Senate for that division to be held now. The question is that the motion be agreed to.

Question agreed to.

- The majority voted in favour of a [motion](https://www.openaustralia.org.au/senate/?id=2020-12-03.209.2) introduced by Queensland Senator [Malcolm Roberts](https://theyvoteforyou.org.au/people/senate/queensland/malcolm_roberts) (Pauline Hanson Party), which means it passed. Motions like these don't make any legal changes on their own but are politically influential because they represent the will of the Senate.
- ### Motion text
- > *That the Senate notes that the current dispute between China and Australia is more deep-seated than a trade spat involving wine, coal and timber.*

Senator Dean Smith?

Dean Smith

by leave—Could I ask that you put that vote again, Madam Deputy President.

Sue Lines

Senator Smith has asked for the deferred vote to be put again. The question is that the motion be agreed to.
