Title
Bills — Productivity Commission Amendment (Addressing Inequality) Bill 2017; Third Reading
- Productivity Commission Amendment (Addressing Inequality) Bill 2017 - Third Reading - Pass the bill
Description

Scott Ryan

As no amendments to the bill have been circulated, I shall call Senator McAllister to move the third reading unless any senator requires that the bill be considered in Committee of the Whole.

Jenny McAllister

- The majority voted in favour of a [motion](https://www.openaustralia.org.au/senate/?id=2018-11-12.10.1) to pass the [bill](https://parlinfo.aph.gov.au/parlInfo/search/display/display.w3p;query=Id:legislation/billhome/s1066) in the Senate. In parliamentary jargon, they voted to read the bill for a [third time](https://www.peo.gov.au/learning/fact-sheets/making-a-law.html). The bill will now be sent to the House of Representatives, where our MPs will decide whether they too want it to become law.
- ### What does the bill do?
- The [bill](https://parlinfo.aph.gov.au/parlInfo/search/display/display.w3p;query=Id:legislation/billhome/s1066) was introduced to:
- * *expand the functions of the Productivity Commission to include the undertaking of research on inequality and its effects on the Australian economy and community; and*
- * *require the commission to have regard in the exercise of its functions to the need to mitigate the negative effects of inequality.*

I move:

That this bill be now read a third time.

Scott Ryan

The question is that the bill be read a third time.
