31st Aug 2016, 9:54 AM – Senate Parliamentary Representation — Rotation of Senators
Summary
EditTo allocate the first six Senators elected in each state for six year terms, and the remaining six Senators for three year terms. This has been the process for all double dissolution parliaments since Federation, but the Senate has repeatedly passed motions (most recently in 2010) to instead allocate the six-year seats to the elected senators who would have received the votes in a half-Senate election.
Votes Passed by a modest majority
