Identity Verification Services Bill 2023 - Second Reading - Agree with the bill's main idea
Passed by a small majority
No rebellions 88% attendance
Division last edited 28th Jan 2024 by mackay staff
The majority voted against an amendment to the usual second reading motion, which is "that the bill be read a second time", which is parliamentary jargon for agreeing with the main idea of the bill. This amendment was introduced by Griffith MP Max Chandler-Mather (Greens).
That all words after "That" be omitted with a view to substituting the following words:
"the House declines to give the bill a second reading until the Privacy Act reforms are in place in recognition of the significant privacy and data implications of this proposal".
Nobody rebelled against their party.
