- Motions - Aged Care - Stop Ms Collins from speaking

<p class="speaker">Julie Collins</p>
<p>I seek leave to move the following motion:</p>
<p class="italic">That the House:</p>
<p class="italic">(1) notes that:</p>
<p class="italic">  (a) reports in this morning's News Corp newspapers that up to 100 older Australians are being assaulted in residential aged care every week;</p>
<p class="italic">  (b) that number could be up to ten times higher;</p>
<p class="italic">  (c) it will have taken more than four years for the government to establish a Serious Incident Response Scheme, after it was recommended by the Australian Law Reform; and</p>
<p class="italic">  (d) aged care is clearly and unambiguously a Commonwealth responsibility, and the Prime Minister must take urgent action to fix this;</p>
<p class="italic">(2) invites the Prime Minister to attend the chamber and make a statement on this matter.</p>
<p>Leave not granted.</p>

<p class="italic">That so much of the standing orders be suspended as would prevent the Member for Franklin from moving the following motion immediately—That the House:</p>
<p class="italic">(1) notes that:</p>
<p class="italic">  (a) reports in this morning's News Corp newspapers that up to 100 older Australians are being assaulted in residential aged care every week;</p>
<p class="italic">  (b) that number could be up to ten times higher;</p>

<p>It is completely unacceptable that this government is failing older Australians and continues to fail—</p>

<p>The question is that the member for Franklin be no further heard.</p>
