Bills — Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Amendment (Streamlining Environmental Approvals) Bill 2020; Second Reading
- Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Amendment (Streamlining Environmental Approvals) Bill 2020 - Second Reading - Keep second reading motion unchanged
Description

Tony Smith

The question now is, on the second reading amendment moved by the member for Griffith, that the words proposed to be omitted stand part of the question.

- The majority voted in favour of motion to keep the usual [second reading motion](https://peo.gov.au/understand-our-parliament/how-parliament-works/bills-and-laws/making-a-law-in-the-australian-parliament/) - that the bill be read a second time - unchanged. This motion was put after the Member for Griffith [Terri Butler](https://theyvoteforyou.org.au/people/representatives/griffith/terri_butler) proposed an amendment.
- Giving a bill a second reading is parliamentary jargon for agreeing with the main idea of the bill.
- ### Proposed amendment text
- > *That all words after "That" be omitted with a view to substituting the following words:*
- >
- > *"The House declines to give the bill a second reading as it is of the opinion that the outdated proposals from the Government ignore recommendations from the Samuel Review and fail to protect the environment, create jobs and provide certainty for business".*
