  • <p>I seek leave to move the following motion:</p>
  • <p class="italic">That the House:</p>
  • <p class="italic">(1) notes that:</p>
  • <p class="italic">&#160;&#160;(a) this week, Australia has plunged into the worst recession in nearly a century;</p>
  • <p class="italic">&#160;&#160;(b) there are a million Australians unemployed;</p>
  • <p class="italic">&#160;&#160;(c) in the midst of this crisis, the Prime Minister has deliberately chosen to cut Jobkeeper, Jobseeker, and wages; and</p>
  • <p class="italic">&#160;&#160;(d) the actions of this Prime Minister will make this recession deeper and longer, and will hurt more Australians; and</p>
  • <p class="italic">(2) invites the Prime Minister to attend the chamber and make a statement on this matter.</p>
  • <p>Leave not granted.</p>

  • <p class="italic">That so much of the standing orders be suspended as would prevent the Member for Gorton from moving the following motion immediately&#8212;That the House:</p>

  • <p class="italic">&#160;&#160;(b) there are a million Australians unemployed;</p>

  • <p>The question is that the member for Gorton be no further heard.</p>
  • The majority voted in favour of a [motion](https://www.openaustralia.org.au/debates/?id=2020-09-03.44.2) "*That the Member be no longer heard.*" In other words, they voted to stop Gorton MP [Brendan O'Connor](https://theyvoteforyou.org.au/people/representatives/gorton/brendan_o'connor) (Labor) from speaking anymore during this debate.
