Bills — Statute Update (Regulations References) Bill 2020; Third Reading
- Statute Update (Regulations References) Bill 2020 - Third Reading - Let a vote happen
Description

Tony Smith

The question now is that the motion moved by the minister to suspend standing orders be agreed to.

- The majority voted in favour of a [motion](https://www.openaustralia.org.au/debate/?id=2020-02-26.130.1) to let a vote happen. In parliamentary jargon, they voted in favour of suspending the usual rules - known as [standing orders](https://peo.gov.au/understand-our-parliament/how-parliament-works/parliament-at-work/standing-orders/) - which means the [third reading motion](https://peo.gov.au/understand-our-parliament/how-parliament-works/bills-and-laws/making-a-law-in-the-australian-parliament/) - the vote on whether to pass the bill - can take place "without delay".
- ### Motion text
- > *That so much of the standing orders be suspended as would prevent the motion for the third reading being moved without delay.*
