Bills — Criminal Code Amendment (Firearms Trafficking) Bill 2017; Third Reading
- Criminal Code Amendment (Firearms Trafficking) Bill 2017 - Third Reading - Pass the bill
Description
<p class="speaker">Michael Keenan</p>
<p>I finally moved that the bill be read a third time.</p>
<p class="speaker">Tony Smith</p>
- The majority voted to pass the [bill](http://parlinfo.aph.gov.au/parlInfo/search/display/display.w3p;query=Id:legislation/billhome/s1042) in the House of Representatives. In parliamentary jargon, they voted to read the bill [for a third time](https://www.peo.gov.au/learning/fact-sheets/making-a-law.html).
- Since the bill has already passed in the Senate, it will now become law.
- ### What does this bill do?
- The bill creates mandatory minimum sentences and increases maximum penalties for the offences of trafficking firearms or parts of firearms both within Australia and between Australia and the rest of the world.
- Read the [bills digest](https://www.aph.gov.au/Parliamentary_Business/Bills_Legislation/bd/bd1617a/17bd029) for more information.
<p>The question is that the bill be read a third time.</p>
