Bills — Registration of Deaths Abroad Amendment Bill 2016; Third Reading
- Registration of Deaths Abroad Amendment Bill 2016 - Third Reading - Suspend standing orders
Description
<p class="speaker">Christopher Pyne</p>
<p>I move:</p>
<p class="italic">That so much of the standing orders be suspended as would prevent the motion for the third reading being moved without delay.</p>
- The majority voted in favour of a [motion](http://www.openaustralia.org.au/debates/?id=2016-09-12.35.1) to suspend [standing orders](http://www.peo.gov.au/learning/fact-sheets/standing-orders.html) so that they could vote on whether to pass the bill immediately.
- Because the motion passed, they could immediately vote on whether to pass the bill. In parliamentary jargon, they could vote to read the bill for a [third time](http://www.peo.gov.au/learning/fact-sheets/making-a-law.html).
- ### Motion text
- > *That so much of the standing orders be suspended as would prevent the motion for the third reading being moved without delay.*
