- The majority agreed with the main idea of the [bill](http://parlinfo.aph.gov.au/parlInfo/search/display/display.w3p;query=Id:legislation/billhome/r5580). In parliamentary jargon, they voted to [read the bill for a second time](http://www.peo.gov.au/learning/fact-sheets/making-a-law.html).
- ### Main idea of the bill
- This bill introduces four measures that will save the Government money. They were first announced in either the [2014 budget](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Australian_federal_budget,_2014) or the [2015 budget](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Australian_federal_budget,_2015) and this is the second time the Government has tried to pass them. The measures include:
- * reducing the period of time some pensioners can receive the full [means tested](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Means_test) rate of payment while they are overseas from 26 weeks to six weeks;
- * ending the [pensioner education supplement](https://www.humanservices.gov.au/customer/services/centrelink/pensioner-education-supplement); and
- * pausing [indexation](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indexation) for three years of particular benefits.
- To find out which benefits are affected and more about these and the other measures the bill is introducing, read the [bills digest](http://www.aph.gov.au/Parliamentary_Business/Bills_Legislation/bd/bd1516a/16bd078).
