The bill is based on recommendations from the [http://www.aph.gov.au/Parliamentary_Business/Committees/Joint/Public_Accounts_and_Audit Joint Public Accounts and Audit Committee]’s (JCPAA) inquiry into the ''Auditor-General Act 1997''.[3]
The purpose of the bill is to:
* extend the [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Australian_National_Audit_Office Auditor-General]’s mandate to: undertake performance [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Audit audits] of private sector providers and state government agencies in certain circumstances; self-initiate performance audits of [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Government_business_enterprises#Australia Government Business Enterprises] and their [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Subsidiary subsidiaries]; and undertake a specific audit program of a sample of agency performance indicators.
* extend the [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Australian_National_Audit_Office#Auditor-General Auditor-General]’s mandate to: undertake performance [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Audit audits] of private sector providers and state government agencies in certain circumstances; self-initiate performance audits of [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Government_business_enterprises#Australia Government Business Enterprises] and their [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Subsidiary subsidiaries]; and undertake a specific audit program of a sample of agency performance indicators.
