Description
The majority voted in favour of a [http://www.openaustralia.org/debates/?id=2010-06-03.52.2 motion] introduced by Independent MP [http://publicwhip-rails.openaustraliafoundation.org.au/mp.php?mpn=Bob_Katter&mpc=Kennedy&house=representatives Bob Katter], which means that it was rejected. The motion was:
''That so much of the [http://www.peo.gov.au/learning/fact-sheets/standing-orders.html standing and sessional orders] be suspended as would prevent the Member for Kennedy [Mr Katter] moving immediately the following motion: That the House immediately debate a matter of national importance, namely the continuing deterioration of the Australian mining industry demonstrated by the announcement by [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xstrata Xstrata] that they will not be proceeding with Ernest Henry copper mine at [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cloncurry Cloncurry] nor the Wandoan Coal Project,(Read more about this announcement [http://www.abc.net.au/news/2010-06-03/xstrata-blames-586m-suspension-on-mining-tax/852562 here].) costing Queensland 3,200 jobs in construction and over 1,000 permanent jobs thereafter.''
Because this motion was unsuccessful, Mr Katter was not able to subsequently move his proposed motion.
